The Historical Museum of Shkodra has begun to be organized since 1947, but took full form in 1949. It settled in the center of the city, in a monumental 19th century building, whose values added the "Clock Tower" attached to The museum was initially erected on the basis of the old collections of the Jesuit and Franciscan assemblies founded since the end of the 19th century, as well as from collections of Shkodra families. During the following years, museums and other-museum houses are set up, forming a museum network of 7 museum centers.
After changing the system, with the deep reforms undertaken in the early 1990s and as a result the houses where the museums were erected were returned to former owners, this museum network was dissolved, only the central museum where all the objects were collected museums of previous museum centers. The Historical Museum was transferred to the newly restored monumental dwelling, where it is still today.
