Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur d'Oran, Oran

Rising majestically in the coastal city of Oran, Algeria, the Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur d'Oran is a testament to the city's rich history and cultural diversity. This former Roman Catholic church, often simply referred to as the Sacré-Cœur Cathedral, stands as a remarkable architectural piece, blending Byzantine and Moorish styles with a touch of Art Deco.

Constructed between 1904 and 1913, the cathedral was designed by the French architect Albert Ballu. It was built to serve the growing European population in Oran during the French colonial period. The cathedral's distinctive white façade and its two imposing towers are easily recognizable and have become a beloved landmark of the city.

Although the cathedral was deconsecrated in 1984, it has not lost its luster or significance. The Algerian government converted the building into a public library known as the "Bibliothèque Principale d'Oran" in 1996.
