Plaza Centro Cívico, San Carlos de Bariloche
Facts and practical information
The Bariloche Civic Center is a building complex located in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. The project, which is the work of architect Ernesto de Estrada, was inaugurated on March 17, 1940. The complex was declared a national historic monument in 1987.
The architectural group comprises a series of buildings surrounding three sides of a square, open on the north side with an excellent view of the Nahuel Huapi Lake, which is about 50 m above sea level. The square is completely covered with flagstone pavement, and in its center there is an equestrian monument of General Julio A. Roca.
In addition to the functionality of the buildings that make up the Civic Center, its conception sought to provide the city of Bariloche with a point of architectural interest that would serve to launch it as a first class tourist center.
