Parque de los Niños - Buenos Aires Playa, Buenos Aires
Facts and practical information
Parque de los Niños is a public park located in the Núñez neighborhood in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was inaugurated on October 6, 1999.
The park has 32 hectares and is located on the banks of the Río de la Plata, so it has remarkable views of this river course. It has areas of lawn and sandboxes with deck chairs and umbrellas to rest from the strong summer sun, and other wooded areas with trails and bike paths for walking. For the public's entertainment, the facilities include shuffleboard, beach soccer and volleyball courts, as well as gym and dance classes.
The main characteristic of the park is that it is surrounded by the river on one side and by a green area with a lot of trees on the other side. It has internally several bike paths and large grassy areas without much infrastructure, which is grouped in certain sectors of the park as is the parking area at the entrance of the same.
In 2004, the Government of the City of Buenos Aires installed a pedestrian bridge over the Raggio stream at the western end of the site, which connects the City of Buenos Aires with Vicente López in the province of Buenos Aires.
The coast of this park is called North Beach because it has a solarium with sandboxes and umbrellas, although since the mid-1970s it is forbidden to bathe or swim in the Buenos Aires coast of the Rio de la Plata because of the contamination of sewage and industrial effluents.
