Status
LEVEL 1 - Exercise normal safety precautions (with regional exceptions)
Use common sense and look out for suspicious behaviour. Monitor the media and other sources for changes to local travelling conditions, safety and security concerns. Laws and social customs could differ significantly. You could face terrorist attacks, civil unrest, violent crime, or unique health threats - but overall, the risks are not great.

Precautions
Armenian authorities conduct frequent identity checks. Carry a photocopy of your passport and leave another one with a relative or a friend at home. Keep passports and valuables in a safe. Arrange to be met at the airport. Do not show signs of affluence.
Road safety
Some roads outside Yerevan are poorly maintained. Do not travel after dark. Poor driving standards, inadequate road signs and poor road conditions make road travel hazardous. Winter travel can be extremely hazardous at higher elevations. Police may set up roadblocks to search vehicles.
Border areas
Be particularly vigilant near all land borders. As the land border with Turkey is closed, you should only travel between Yerevan and Istanbul by air.
Public transportation
Public transportation networks are overcrowded and poorly maintained. Pedestrians may not have the right of way. Minibuses are often involved in accidents. Be cautious when travelling by train. Store personal belongings and documents in a safe place, do not leave the compartment unattended and lock the door from the inside.
Women's safety
Norway is generally safe, women travelling alone should maintain personal security awareness. Women, particularly foreigners may be subject to unwanted male attention and catcalls in certain places. Be vigilant if approached by strangers seeking assistance and exercise common precautions throughout your travel.
Crime
Basic pickpocketing, mugging and theft from cars and homes may occur.

Local Law and Culture
LGBT
Homosexuality was decriminalised in 2003 but is still viewed with disapproval by many Armenians. Local LGBT groups occasionally suffer from verbal and physical harassment. Although same sex couples are often seen holding hands and kissing in public, this is common in Armenian culture, and is not necessarily an indicator of sexual orientation.
Illegal drugs
The use of illegal drugs carries stiff penalties, including fines and long prison terms. The penalty for smuggling drugs carries a prison term of between 4 to 10 years.
Driving
An International Driving Permit is recommended.

Stay Healthy and Safe
Act in advance of to prevent. Check the vaccines and medicines list and visit your doctor at least 4-8 weeks before your trip to get vaccines or medicines you may need.
All travelers
You should be up to date on routine vaccinations while traveling to any destination. Some vaccinations may also be required in Armenia.
Before each trip, it is worth making sure that we are up to date with the routine vaccinations. These include vaccinations against measles, mumps and rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, chickenpox, polio and flu.

Get travel vaccines and medicines because there is a risk of these diseases in the country you are visiting.
Hepatitis A is a digestive disease caused by the hepatitis A virus and is closely related to a lack of good hygiene.
It can be asymptomatic, moderate, or very severe.

Hepatitis B is a disease caused by the hepatitis B virus.
Infection occurs through contact of injured skin or mucous membranes with virus-infected blood or other secretions (e.g. during sexual contact, through contaminated needles or as a result of medical procedures).

Rabies is an acute infectious disease caused by neurotrophic viruses from the rhabdovirus family.
The infection is most often caused by biting a sick animal or other contact of its saliva with mucous membranes, conjunctiva or damaged skin.
