Broad-toothed mouse

The broad-toothed rat is a distinctive rodent endemic to southeastern Australia. These small mammals can be observed in regions such as the Snowfields, the Great Dividing Range, the Gippsland Highlands, the Otway Ranges, Wilsons Promontory, the Otway Plains, East Gippsland, and the buttongrass sedgeland of western Tasmania. They thrive in habitats like herbfields, grasslands, and forests that have minimal shrubbery but abundant sedge, grass, herbs, and moss for concealment. These areas typically receive substantial rainfall, with annual precipitation ranging from 1000 mm in lower regions to 1400 mm in alpine areas.
