When Is the Best Time To Visit Belgium?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Belgium depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Tourist Season in Belgium
Belgium is best visited in summer, from June to August, i.e. during the warmest and sunniest months of the year. Although the weather is not ideal, and the sky can sometimes be overcast and there are fleeting rainfalls, it is nevertheless the most favorable time for sightseeing and mountain hiking. Also, lovers of beach and sea bathing can relax on the coasts of the North Sea and at the lakes without much concern about the aura.
The spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) periods are a bit cooler, but this is still a good time to visit Belgium. Admittedly, it's too cold for beachcombing, but it's cheerful enough for sightseeing and touring without much inconvenience. In addition, nature taking on spring or autumn colors makes hiking more pleasant.
The winter months, from November to March, are outside the tourist season. Low temperatures, increased rainfall (some regions snow) can make a visit difficult. On the other hand, it's a good time for winter sports enthusiasts - as the Ardennes ski season is underway then.

The spring months, in which temperatures gradually rise and the sun is increasingly in the sky. The humidity also decreases, making it not as oppressive as in the winter months. During this time, not only airline tickets, but also hotels and restaurants are cheaper and less crowded.
A good time for sightseeing and touring the country. Unfortunately, it's still too cold for beachcombing and swimming in the sea, but you can organize hiking trips without much trouble, admiring the beauty of the nature blooming around you.

The summer months comprise the peak tourist season in Belgium. July and August are the warmest (about 18°C - 23°C), however, even then you can't count on too many hot days. On average, the sun hosts 7 hours in the sky during the day, cloudiness and rainfall occur.
The North Sea coast is besieged by lovers of beach and sea bathing (including in Blankenberge). Belgian lakes also attract sunbathing and water sports enthusiasts (kayakers, sailors). Swimming enthusiasts can also enjoy the charms of rivers and streams, which are very clean and well-developed, especially in mountainous areas. Summer is the best time for mountain trekking and climbing in the highest parts of the Ardennes.

Until mid-September it is generally still warm and the weather resembles summer, then there is a gradual cooling. Cloudiness and rainfall increase, especially on the coast (around Bruges and Ostend). Although you can still count on sunny days, it is not a good time for beachcombing and swimming, as the water in the North Sea and lakes is already far too cold. There may be some fleeting rainfall throughout the country, but it is not so frequent and intense as to make a visit difficult.
Autumn is a good time for sightseeing and road trips around the country. Nature takes on color, making walks and active outdoor recreation more enjoyable.
In September, take part in the "Belgian Beer Weekend" beer festival held in Brussels.
November - March
Nov | Dec | Jan | Feb | Mar |
The winter months in most areas of Belgium are mild and usually snow-free, with temperatures staying just above 0°C. However, cloudiness and fog are common. Humidity also increases, as does the number of rainy days. It is not a good time for sightseeing and hiking.
The Ardennes area is the coldest in the country, here the mercury bar can drop to around -10°C. It often snows, which in the highest areas lasts for several months. From December to February, the ski season is in full swing, with winter sports enthusiasts able to take advantage of groomed trails and lifts in Baraque de Fraiture, among other places.
