The Provincial Palace is located in the Historic Center of the city of Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas. It is a centennial building full of important facts related to the social and political life of the Amazon people.
Officially opened in 1875, the building was already the seat of government and residence of the presidents of the Amazonas Province until 1888. It served as the Amazonas Military Police Barracks for over 100 years and, currently, the Amazonas State Secretary of Culture is responsible for the use of the space.
In 2005, the Provincial Palace underwent restoration work, and reopened in 2009 as a space for free public visits, receiving visitors interested in getting to know the museums' art collections and collections, and also participating in the cultural events that take place there. Located at Praça Heliodoro Balbi, better known as Praça da Polícia, the building receives about 145 thousand visitors per year.
Nowadays, the building houses a set of 5 museums, of different languages: Museum of Archeology, Museum of Image and Sound, Museum of Numismatics of Amazonas, Tiradentes Museum and the Pinacoteca of the State of Amazonas.
