Viaduto do Chá, São Paulo

Spanning the Anhangabaú Valley in the bustling heart of São Paulo, Brazil, the Viaduto do Chá is a bridge that not only connects two important city points but also stands as a historical monument, reflecting São Paulo's growth and transformation. This viaduct has been an integral part of the city's infrastructure since its inauguration in 1892, and it was the first of its kind in São Paulo.

The Viaduto do Chá measures 240 meters in length and was a pioneering structure in Brazilian engineering. Its construction marked a significant development in the urban landscape of São Paulo, facilitating the connection between the Old Center and the New Center, areas that were previously separated by the steep valley. The bridge quickly became a vital thoroughfare for the city's inhabitants and remains so to this day.

The original structure was made of iron and imported from Belgium. However, due to increased traffic and the need for a more robust construction, the viaduct was rebuilt in concrete in 1938, maintaining its iconic status while adapting to the modern needs of the city.
