Facts and practical information
Pedra da Cebola Park is located in the Brazilian municipality of Vitória, between the neighborhoods Jardim da Penha and Mata da Praia, in the continental part of the municipality, in the state of Espírito Santo.
The park covers 100,005 square meters and has typical restinga vegetation. The origin of its name comes from a stone designed by nature in the shape of a large onion. The stone is one of the symbols of the capital of Espírito Santo.
The Municipal Park of Pedra da Cebola has a good structure to attend the public, there is a meditation house and an oriental garden, besides a belvedere on a large rocky wall, used by mountaineering fans. It is also possible to visit the cultural space, with various programs throughout the year. It has a large flat area that hosts events and is also used for baseball and soccer. The soccer space is reserved for the Children's Soccer School.
Before opening the doors of the park to the population, however, it was necessary to give it a name.
"Park Pedra da Cebola" is a fantasy name, given because of the stone whose effects of the action of nature made it very similar to an onion located in the middle of the park. The official name is "Parque Municipal Ítalo Batan Régis", in honor of Ítalo Batan Régis, the first president of the community center of Santa Maria Island who, even being blind, worked on behalf of the neighborhood's population. Animals are not allowed in the Park.
