Praça Rui Barbosa, Araçatuba

Rui Barbosa Square formerly known as Cristiano Olsen Square and Fat Ox Square is a historic square located in the city of Araçatuba. It is nationally known for giving that city the nickname Cidade do Boi Gordo. This is due to the negotiations that took place for more than 30 years, involving the buying and selling of cattle. The cattle breeders would meet in the square and hold their land sales and also set the price of the arroba of cattle throughout Brazil. It has a large circulation of people because it is the central area of Araçatuba and is close to the "calçadão", a place with a dense amount of service stores.
