Centro Cultural Oscar Niemeyer, Goiânia
Facts and practical information
The Oscar Niemeyer Cultural Center, also known as CCON and NIE, is a complex of cultural spaces located on Avenida Deputado Jamel Cecílio, Quadra Gleba, Lote 01, n° 4 490, Setor Fazenda Gameleira, in the southwest region of the city of Goiânia, in Goiás, Brazil. It was inaugurated on March 30, 2006.
Currently, the complex is composed of the Esplanada da Cultura, a 26,000 square meter plaza for exhibitions, artistic presentations, events, and concerts. While the other buildings are geometric concrete volumes, the library building is a glass box with a smoked façade - intentionally dark to reinforce the contrast with the white of the MAC - Museum of Contemporary Art and the Palace of Music, and with the big red triangle of the Monument to Human Rights. In this 700 square meter space there is a 170-seat auditorium, winter garden, and exhibition hall. It has two accesses via the GO-020 and BR-153 highways, public transportation lines, a heliport, and 470 parking spaces.
