Parque Burle Marx, São Paulo
Facts and practical information
Burle Marx Park is a park located in the district of Vila Andrade, in the southern region of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Unlike Ibirapuera Park, the best known park in São Paulo, Burle Marx Park has a more contemplative approach, not only for leisure and fun. Thus, the space does not provide an area to ride a bike, skateboard or play ball. This is due to its important function of preserving a stretch of what remains of São Paulo's Atlantic Forest, just as it does in the Carmo and Anhanguera parks.
It was inaugurated in 1995, after the architect and landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx finalized his artistic project to incorporate the gardens of a house, dating from the 1950s and never completed, to be used by the future park.
With an area of approximately 138 thousand square meters, the park has trail areas, the Jabuticabeira Forest, the Lake Region, a large central lawn, playground, community garden, composting station, picnic and event space, and some important constructions for the national history and architecture, such as the Taipa and Pilão House, used by the "Bandeirista Cycle", and the Burle Marx Garden - which is one of the main attractions.
The park is classified as a public municipal park, but is managed by the Aron Birmann Foundation - a non-profit organization that has the right to manage the park after signing an agreement with the Municipality of São Paulo. Currently, the Foundation's private management maintains the park from resources derived from events, product sales, image rights, parking, projects and donations.
