The Sanctuary of Bom Jesus da Lapa e da Mãe da Soledade, better known as the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus da Lapa is in the municipality of Bom Jesus da Lapa in the state of Bahia, 796 kilometers from Salvador. The sanctuary was elected the first of the seven wonders of Brazil in a survey done by the internet site 7 Maravilhas Brasil. Discovered in 1691, the Bom Jesus Cave, the best known of the Bom Jesus da Lapa Hill and former home of jaguars, serves as the Church of Bom Jesus da Lapa.
It is famous for its pilgrimages that take many faithful to the streets of the city, considered the third largest in Brazil.
