Praia de Boa Viagem, Salvador
Facts and practical information
Praia da Boa Viagem is a Brazilian beach, located in the neighborhood of the same name in Salvador, about twelve kilometers south of downtown. It is home to the Igreja da Boa Viagem church, built during the 18th century. The beach was a place for unloading merchandise. It is famous mainly for being the arrival point of the Maritime Procession of Bom Jesus dos Navegantes, which takes place on the first day of the year. The sea has calm waters with few and weak waves, very suitable for the practice of nautical sports. The sands are golden and, although narrow, shelter stalls that serve typical snacks. The place is very sought after by those who like to admire the beautiful view of the city and of the Bay of All Saints, and also for the diversity of seafood found in the local bars and restaurants.
Due to the 1755 tsunami, documents tell that the waters rose by three meters in height.
