Least pygmy squirrel

The least pygmy squirrel, also known as the plain pygmy squirrel, is a diminutive rodent belonging to the family Sciuridae. These tiny mammals inhabit the forests of Southeast Asian islands such as Borneo, Sumatra, and Banggi. Typically found at elevations below 750 meters, they occasionally venture to higher altitudes.

Their diminutive size is particularly noteworthy. Along with the African pygmy squirrel, they are among the smallest squirrel species globally. They measure just 10 to 14 cm in length and weigh a mere 12 to 26 grams. Their plain olive-brown coloration adds to their distinctiveness. Their small size and specific habitat preferences make them intriguing subjects for study.
