Mindanao Splash Frog

Staurois natator, an intriguing frog species belonging to the family Ranidae, is native to the Philippines. These frogs can be found on the islands of Mindanao, Leyte, and Samar. Although earlier reports suggested their presence on other Philippine islands and even Borneo, subsequent studies have identified those populations as different species.

Staurois natator flourishes in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and near rivers and streams, including seasonal waterways. Unfortunately, habitat loss presents a severe threat to their survival, putting this fascinating species at significant risk.
