Spear of Fuchai

The Spear of Fuchai is a captivating artifact from history, connected to King Fuchai of Wu, a prominent adversary of King Goujian of Yue. This spear was excavated in Jiangling, Hubei, in November 1983.

What makes this spear particularly intriguing is the inscription in the bird-worm seal script, a writing style prevalent in southern states like Wu and Yue. This script closely resembles that found on King Goujian's Sword, with the primary distinction being the owner's name and the type of weapon.

The inscription on the Spear of Fuchai reads, "吴王夫差自作用矛" which translates to "King Fuchai of Wu made this spear for his personal use."

This artifact not only offers a glimpse into the ancient rivalry between these two kings but also provides valuable insights into the weaponry and craftsmanship of that epoch.
