Beihai Park, Beijing

Nestled in the heart of Beijing, Beihai Park stands as an oasis of tranquility amidst the bustling cityscape. This ancient imperial garden, with a history that spans over a millennium, is one of the oldest and most well-preserved royal gardens in China. Covering an area of more than 69 hectares, with a lake that takes up more than half of the entire park, Beihai offers a picturesque retreat with pagodas, temples, and pavilions dotting the landscape.

The park was created during the Liao Dynasty and was expanded and enhanced by subsequent emperors, particularly during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The focal point of Beihai Park is the White Pagoda, which sits atop Jade Flower Island, rising majestically above the lake. This 40-meter-tall stupa was built in honor of the visit of the Dalai Lama in the 17th century and offers panoramic views of the surrounding city and park.

Visitors to Beihai Park can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the lake's shores, partake in paddle boating, or explore the various historical buildings, such as the Hall of Enlightenment and the Nine-Dragon Wall.
