Xiyang Lou, Beijing

Nestled in the verdant surroundings of the Old Summer Palace, also known as Yuanming Yuan, in Beijing, China, lies the architectural wonder known as Xiyang Lou, or the Western Mansions. Designed during the Qing Dynasty in the 18th century, Xiyang Lou is a testament to the historical exchange between Chinese and Western cultures. A blend of traditional Chinese architecture and European Baroque and Rococo styles, this palace complex was once a symbol of opulence and the cosmopolitan vision of the Qianlong Emperor.
