The former site of the First National Congress of the Chinese Kuomintang is located in the auditorium of the clock tower on the east side of Guangdong Zhongshan Library on Wenming Road, Guangzhou, and is a national key cultural relic protection unit. The First National Congress of the Chinese Kuomintang was held in the auditorium of the clock tower from January 20 to 30, 1924. The auditorium has now been restored to its original state at the time of the congress. The podium at the front has a portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, with the Chinese Nationalist Party flag on the left of the portrait and the Republic of China flag on the right, and the seats under the podium are all labeled with the numbers and names of those who attended the meeting at that time.
The building was built in 1904 on the former site of Guangdong Gungfu Academy, the former imperial examination hall of the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of 4,375 square meters, with a construction area of 2,400 square meters, and is a two-story house of brick and wood structure, with an arched cylindrical corridor at the main entrance, the first half of the house is divided into two floors, and the second half is divided into one floor, with the external appearance resembling the shape of a "mountain". In 1924, Sun Yat-sen established the National Guangdong University here, which was later changed to National Sun Yat-sen University as the main office building of the University. 1933, when the new campus of National Sun Yat-sen University was built in the five hills of Shipai outside the city, the old campus on Wenming Road was used with the new campus in Shipai. 1952, after the restructuring of faculties, Sun Yat-sen University was moved to the former Lingnan University campus, and the old campus on Wenming Road was used by the Department of Culture of Guangdong Province. The old campus on Wenming Road was given to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and was later converted into the Guangdong Provincial Zhongshan Library and the Guangdong Provincial Museum.
