Datong City Museum, the only specialized institution in Datong City, Shanxi Province, People's Republic of China, which collects, displays, researches and keeps as one, was founded in 1959 and is the second largest museum in Shanxi Province with a collection of more than 30,000 cultural relics. The new Tatung Museum was opened on December 31, 2014.
Historically, Datong was the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Liao and Jin Western capital, so that the collection of cultural relics, the number of cultural relics of these three generations is particularly outstanding. Museum collection of national cultural relics, one of the Northern Wei painted figures story lacquer screen included in the People's Republic of China prohibited the exhibition of cultural relics abroad list.
