Veliki Zavižan, Northern Velebit National Park

Zavižan or Veliki Zavižan - a peak in North Weleba with a height of 1676 m.
It has the shape of a cone, it is a rocky-foamy peak, one of the higher in Veleba. It is located on the Zavižanian Valley in the North Welebit National Park. Nearby there are: Zavižan meteorological station, the highest lying meteorological station in Croatia and the Zavižan mountain hostel and the Botanical Reserve Zavižan-Balinovac-Vertik Kosa. Degenia Velebitica are planted near the meteorological station. The meteorological station began to operate on October 1, 1953. In 1967, the Croatian botanist Fran Kušan founded in Modrić-Dolac at the foot of Zavižan the botanical garden.
On the north side, a spruce forest, low beech and dwarf is growing. The coastal side is steep and rocky. At an altitude of up to 1300 m, the coastal beech forest grows. Numerous rare, endemic and valuable plants, such as melampyrum velebiticum, European full -time, Alpine Mikołajki, Edraanthus tenuifolius, color cornflower and numerous other species of plants grow grow on Zavižana.
