Nationaal park Shete Boka
Facts and practical information
The Shete Boka National Park is a nature reserve in Bandabou, Curaçao. The park was established in 1994, and covers approximately 200 hectares.
The area borders the Christoffel Park National Park and covers more than 10 kilometers of the island's rugged north coast. There are about ten bays and coves where three species of sea turtles lay their eggs. Since 1994, the nesting sites have been protected areas and surveillance is conducted during the nesting season.
The area's best-known attraction is Boka Tabla, a cave accessible from land on one side, with the sea pushed up by the northeast trade winds rolling in on the other.
In addition to Boka Tabla, there are another six bays and inlets in the northwest of the park: Boka Wandomi with the natural bridge of Curaçao, Boka Kortalein, Boka Plate, Boka Mansalina, Boka Djegu and Dos Boka. These bays and inlets are also protected sea turtle nesting areas.
To the northeast are two more bays: Boka Kalki and Boka Pistol. Boka Kalki is a partially mangrove-covered bay while Boka Pistol is a very narrow inlet where the surged sea hits the shore with gunshot-like explosions.
In 2022, the park was named the best attraction in the Caribbean in USA Today's annual "10 Best Readers Choice Awards" contest.
