Facts About Dakos
Dakos, also known as ntakos, is a cherished traditional Cretan meze bearing various names depending on the region in Crete, such as koukouvagia, koukouvayia, or kouloukopsomo. This simple yet flavorful dish begins with a slice of soaked dried bread or barley rusk. It is then topped with juicy, chopped tomatoes and crumbled feta or mizithra cheese, brought to life with a sprinkle of dried oregano. For added flavor, olives and pepper can also be included.
If you’re familiar with Catalan pa amb tomàquet or Italian bruschetta and panzanella, you’ll notice that dakos shares a similar essence, blending fresh ingredients with hearty bread for a delicious bite.
