Parque Seminario, Guayaquil
Facts and practical information
Parque Seminario also known as Parque Bolívar or Parque de las Iguanas is a small, traditional public urban park located in the Rocafuerte sector in downtown Guayaquil. It was originally the Plaza de Armas of the colonial city, but over time it lost that character.
In this park you can appreciate a monument to Simón Bolívar, as well as a great variety of iguanas of the species Iguana iguana. According to the mayor's office, in 2017 the park had around 350 iguanas.
The Seminario Park borders on the north with Clemente Ballén Street, on the south with Diez de Agosto Street, on the east with Chile Street and on the west with Chimborazo Street, which was regenerated for the specific use of pedestrians since it connects the park with the Cathedral of Guayaquil. It was inaugurated on July 25, 1895, by the then president of Ecuador, General Eloy Alfaro.
