Facts About Whimbrel
The word "whimbrel" can refer to a couple of different things. In ornithology, it denotes two specific bird species: the Eurasian whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) and the Hudsonian whimbrel (Numenius hudsonicus). However, that's not the extent of its meanings. "Whimbrel" is also the name of HMS Whimbrel (U29), a significant historical vessel as the last surviving Royal Navy warship that participated in the Japanese Surrender during World War II.
