Facts About Blodplättar
Blodplättar, or blood pancakes, are a traditional delicacy enjoyed in Finland, Sweden, and Norway. These unique pancakes are made from a mixture of whipped blood, water or pilsner, flour, and eggs. Unlike the thicker and denser black pudding, blodplättar are known for their thin and crispy texture.
To prepare them, the batter is fried in a pan until golden and crispy. They are typically served with a side of crushed lingonberries, which add a tart, sweet contrast to the savory pancakes. Occasionally, they are also paired with pork or reindeer meat for an added depth of flavor.
Interestingly, in Swedish, "blodplättar" can also refer to blood platelets, but in this context, we are definitely talking about the delicious, traditional dish!
