Facts and practical information
The Chartreuse Saint-Sauveur is a former monastery of hermit monks of the Carthusian order. Located south of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, on the road leading to Najac and Albi, it was founded in the 15th century and closed - the last monks being expelled - in 1790, by the revolutionary authorities.
Since the French Revolution, the buildings of the monastery have been part of the hospice, then hospital, of Villefranche-de-Rouergue. This former Carthusian monastery is classified as a historical monument by the list of 1840.
