Phare du Stiff, Ushant
Facts and practical information
The Stiff lighthouse is one of the lighthouses of the island of Ouessant in Finistère. It has been classified as a historical monument since July 12, 2011.
In 1699, Vauban decided to build two truncated cone-shaped towers at the top of the Stiff cliff, the highest point on the island of Ushant, one housing the staircase, the other the guards' lodgings and the coal storehouse, which can still be identified in the building's architecture. It is one of the first 6 lighthouses built by Vauban and one of the oldest lighthouses in France still in operation after Cordouan.
