Château de Trévoux, Trévoux
Facts and practical information
The castle of Trévoux is an ancient fortified castle, from the end of the XIIIth century or the beginning of the XIVth century, reworked in the 1360s, abandoned in 1563 and restored in the 1990s, whose remains stand in the commune of Trévoux in the Ain department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The castle was the center of the lordship of Trévoux and the chief town of a châtellenie of the principality of Dombes.
The remains of the castle are classified as historical monuments by order of June 13, 1913.
Built in two main campaigns in the 14th century, it was abandoned two centuries later without having undergone any significant modification. It is therefore an exceptional example of late medieval seigneurial architecture.
