Facts and practical information
The Ferrande Tower, in Pernes-les-Fontaines, is a square building, three stories high, which has been dated to the 12th century. Its fame is linked to the 13th-century frescoes that adorn its third floor. Considered the first military frescoes in France, they illustrate the investiture by the Pope of Charles I, Count of Provence, as King of Sicily, and the battles he led in southern Italy to secure his throne.
