City Hall, Lyon

Lyon City Hall, known as Hôtel de Ville de Lyon, stands as a historic and architectural masterpiece in the heart of Lyon, France. This grand building, constructed in the 17th century between 1645 and 1651 under the design of architect Simon Maupin, later underwent restorations and extensions by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and Robert de Cotte, bringing it to its current splendor.

Flaunting classical French architecture, the City Hall is one of the city's most iconic landmarks, situated on the Place des Terreaux, and is renowned for its opulent facade and ornate interiors. It is not only a center of political life but also a venue for prestigious events.

The building was partially destroyed by fires and underwent significant restoration in the 19th century, which added to its grandeur. Today, it houses the offices of the Mayor of Lyon and the municipal administration. The City Hall's courtyard plays host to various public and private events, including the famous Nuits de Fourvière festival.

Tours of the building are available, allowing visitors to appreciate the historical council chambers, the magnificent staircase, and the elaborate ceiling frescoes that contribute to its status as a national monument since 1862.
