Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, Chantilly
Facts and practical information
The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption is a Catholic parish church located in Chantilly, in the department of Oise, in the Hauts-de-France region, in France. It is the first church of Chantilly. Its construction was launched in 1687 by Prince Henri-Jules de Bourbon-Condé in accordance with a wish expressed in the will of his father the Great Condé, which also stipulated that the necessary funds be taken from his fortune. The plans were drawn by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, and the church was completed in early 1692. It is a building of a rather sober classical style, which quickly proves to be too small: to answer the increase of the population, an enlargement is undertaken between 1724 and 1734. The church has hardly changed since then. In the department of Oise, there is no other parish church of a clearly affirmed classical style. For this reason and the quality of its architecture, it was classified as a historical monument by order of September 30, 1965. It is the center of the parish of the Holy Family of Chantilly.
