Musée Renoir, Cagnes-sur-Mer
Facts and practical information
Musée Renoir is a museum dedicated to the life and work of the painter Impressionist Auguste Renoir in Cagnes-Sur-Mer in France.
Renoir came to Cagnes for the first time in 1898 and was delighted with its surroundings. In the times of Renoir, Cagnes was a flourishing village of wealthy peasants. A lot has changed since then. Today, Cagnes consists of three separate towns. Renoir settled in a village on the Hait-De-Cagnes hill. Initially, he lived in the center of Stara Wieś, in the local post office. In 1907 he bought a property outside the village, on the road towards the coast. He built his house there, where he lived for the rest of his life. In 1960 the house was bought by the city authorities for the Renoir Museum.
