Ancienne Batterie du Centre, Port-Cros
Facts and practical information
Île de Bagaud - the smallest island of the archipelago îles d'Hyères in southern France, in the Mediterranean. It is part of the Port-Cros National Park.
In geological terms, the island, like the entire archipelago, is the extension of the Massif des Maures band. It is located in the immediate vicinity of much larger île de port-Cros. The highest point is 63 m a.s.l. It is administratively subject to the Hyères commune. On the neighboring island in Port-Cros there is a portion of the port, several guesthouses, restaurants and bars, open in the season, a shop and companies dealing with tourist service.
Access to the island is regulated by the regulations of the National Park. Admission in this case is prohibited - a formal ban on nailing and accusing the anchor applies. The invasive Carpobrotus Edulis and rats spread in an island uncontrolled. It is even claimed that the descent would be dangerous. This story stopped curious tourists from growing to this place and led to the introduction of a formal ban on nailing to the edges of the island, maintaining the wildness of the local nature.
On the island there are remains of four artillery positions.
