Facts and practical information
The castle of Audignies is a castle located in the town of Audignies in the Nord department. Various elements of the castle are registered as historical monuments in 1984.
History attributes the origins of the castle to Guillaume de Sars. It has a moat and three angled wings. A square tower of almost 9 meters on each side is located in a corner. The first two levels are built in sandstone and the last two in brick. Its roof is made of slate. The south wing, the main building, was attached to the tower in the 17th century. The access is done by a drawbridge. The building is partially registered as a historical monument since 1984. The 15th century castle was built as a "fortified house" to maintain order in Hainaut and protect the inhabitants.
