Tiboulen de Maïre, Calanques National Park
Facts and practical information
Tiboulen Island or Tiboulen de Maïre Island is an uninhabited French island, neighboring Maïre Island, in the Riou Archipelago, south of Marseille. About 100 meters long, 49 meters high, the island has a white light with a maritime signal, which is located at an altitude of about 58 meters.
It is locally nicknamed "Turtle Island" because of its typical shape.
The name Tiboulen is referenced in Frédéric Mistral's Trésor du Félibrige as an evolution in Provençal of the Latin antipolitanus, itself derived from the Greek antipolis, literally, "in front of the city," which reflects the location of this islet quite well.
