Église Saint-Leufroy, Montataire
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Leufroy church is a Catholic parish church located in Thiverny, a commune in the Oise department. It is a very modest building of only four bays, which illustrates how the architectural principles developed for large churches could be transposed to a smaller scale while taking into account budgetary constraints. Half of the nave's walls come from the previous 11th-century Romanesque church, and the portal with broken sticks from around 1130 is also Romanesque. The nave was rebuilt in the Gothic style around 1230 / 1240 and is influenced by the former nave of the church of Saint-Médard de Creil. The choir was replaced a generation later by an almost austere construction, sparingly decorated. It does, however, contain a rare fragment of original stained glass depicting the patron saint of the church, St. Leufroy of Evreux. The church was registered as a historical monument by decree of October 16, 1930. It has undergone several restorations and is today in a perfect state of preservation. Affiliated to the parish of Notre-Dame-des-deux-Rivières du Creillois-Sud, the church was practically unused for several years.
