The castle of Fontaine-Française, located in the center of its village, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is an eighteenth century castle built for Francois Bollioud de Saint-Jullien, adviser to King Louis XV and receiver general of the clergy of France.
The latter wished to build a castle in the fashion of the time and entrusted the work to the Parisian architect Souhard. The work lasted 4 years and cost about 338,000 pounds at the time.
The castle with its gardens composed of 372 linden trees trimmed in portico and topiaries of yew and boxwood is the subject of a classification as a historical monument since November 12, 1945. The orangery and the garden were listed by order of October 6, 1993, then the park of the castle was listed by order of February 20, 2017.
The park was also awarded the Remarkable Garden label in 2015.
