Église Saint-Martin.
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Martin church is a Catholic parish church located in Mareuil-sur-Ourcq, in the Oise department. It is a very homogeneous building of Gothic style, which was built in three construction campaigns during the first half of the 13th century. It is composed of a nave with large arcades surmounted by windows, two aisles, an overflowing transept, whose two crosses are extended by chapels to the east, and a square choir with a flat chevet. If the sculpture and the modenature, remarkable in the first three bays, fully reflect the period of construction, the architecture is still in the late Romanesque tradition, which is reflected in the proportions, the use of bays and arches with round arches, the absence of windows with infill, and certain features of the plan. The central nave is nevertheless noticeable for its slenderness, which contrasts with the squat appearance of the central bell tower, topped by a modern-era wooden spire. Unlike most of the churches in the region, the church of Saint-Martin has never undergone major reconstruction or remodeling, except for the portal, which was redone in 1773 in the neo-classical style. The church was classified as a historical monument by order of January 22, 1922, and is in a good state of preservation. It is now affiliated with the parish of Saint Joan of Arc of Multien, and Sunday masses are celebrated there twice a month.
