Église Saint-Crepin, Château-Thierry
Facts and practical information
The church of Saint-Crépin is a church located in Château-Thierry, in the Aisne department. Mentioned in the twelfth century, it was completely rebuilt in the late fifteenth century or early sixteenth century, following the damage of the Hundred Years War. It is a hall-church of a late but sober gothic style, whose facade is flanked by an imposing bell tower. It is classified as a historical monument since 1957.
Initially, the church of Saint-Crépin was the parish church of the outskirts of Château-Thierry, the town being served by the church of Notre-Dame-du-Château and the surrounding hamlets by the church of Saint-Martin. After the Revolution, the parishes of Saint-Martin and Notre-Dame-du-Château were abolished and their churches destroyed. The church of Saint-Crépin became the parish church of the whole town.
