Facts and practical information
The Monceau work was built between 1889 and 1890. It is part of the Séré de Rivières type fortifications of Eastern France. It is an integral part of the fortress of Belfort. It is located at the top of a hill called the Monceau, near Valdoie.
This fort has a drawbridge at its entrance. It was also equipped with an imposing gate as well as a metal door located 160 cm away from the gate. These 160 cm were made of a removable floor.
It is important to note that this is the only work in the fortified place of Belfort that uses water to defend itself: water is present in all its ditches.
