St. Nicholas Church
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Nicolas church is a church located in Fossé, France. This church was partially destroyed during the Second World War. In 1954, the Coopérative de reconstruction des églises dévastées de France commissioned three young artists to rebuild and decorate the church: Pierre Székely, painter and sculptor, his wife Vera, ceramist, and André Borderie. The arrangement and decoration surprised some of the inhabitants, and provoked a polemic beyond the village, with supporters and detractors. A significant part of the furniture was removed at the end of the 1950s. The church is now a listed historic monument.
