Château de Cornay
Facts and practical information
The castle of Cornay is a residence located in Cornay, in the Ardennes, on the borders of Champagne and Lorraine.
This castle, located on a terrace on the hillside, has belonged to the same family since its construction four centuries ago. A family linked by the profession of arms to the Argonne region of the Ardennes and to the French nation. But this castle is not military. It is a 17th century pleasure house, deeply modified in the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, while keeping its Renaissance style.
"Ideal manor for summer stays, turned by its main facade to the fresh east wind, lying in the shadow of the fortified church, protected from promiscuity and noise by a grove with mountain laces, the castle of Cornay is an amiable and well-proportioned residence".
- Suzanne Briet
As a wink to the visitors, the building also reminds them of two activities of the village of Cornay in the 19th century, stone carving and wine making.
