Caverne du dragon
Facts and practical information
The Caverne du Dragon is located on the Chemin des Dames, on the territory of the commune of Oulches-la-Vallée-Foulon, in the department of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region. It is a strategic place during the First World War and more precisely during the Nivelle offensive, during the battle of the observatories.
It was the Germans who, during their occupation of the cave, nicknamed it the Dragon Cave. The flames and sparks from the machine guns coming out of the entrances of the cave during the fighting reminded them of the flames spewed by the dragons from their caves.
