Phare de Pontusval, Brignogan-Plages
Facts and practical information
The Pontusval lighthouse is built on the point of Beg-Pol, commune of Brignogan-Plages. The construction of the lighthouse was decided following numerous shipwrecks on the coast, which lacked beaconing, especially at night, and was completed in June 1869. The first lighting took place on September 15, 1869.
The lighthouse serves as a relay between the lighthouse of the Île Vierge and the lighthouse of the Île de Batz.
It is signaled at night by three occultations every twelve seconds. Fifty-two steps allow to reach the top. It lost its last keeper, Mrs. Marie-Paule Le Gwen, in 2003. However, if she is no longer officially the keeper of the lighthouse, she still lives in the house.
The lighthouse has been classified as a historical monument since May 23, 2011.
