St. Denis Church
Facts and practical information
Saint-Denis Church is a Catholic parish church located in Hodenc-en-Bray, France. Baptismal fonts from the 11th century attest to the existence of a church on the same site, before the present nave was built in the mid-14th century. It is a single vessel without character, covered with an interesting paneled roof with carved and painted decorative elements. The church is most famous for its high flamboyant gothic choir from the first quarter of the 16th century, built under the impulse of the de Montceaux family, lords of Hodenc-en-Bray from 1481. The choir is both sober and elegant, very luminous, and of generous dimensions compared to the small size of the village. Despite its interest in architectural history, the church was not classified as a historical monument until 1995, and its history remains largely in the shadows. It is affiliated with the parish of La Trinité en Bray in the Pays de Bray.
