Saint-Léger Church
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Léger church is a Catholic parish church located in Jagny-sous-Bois, France. It is an incomplete church, which lost its rustic and architecturally uninteresting nave in the middle of the 20th century, when it was demolished due to its poor condition. Only the south-east wall remains, which connects the simple bell tower to the remaining part of the church. It consists of the two straight bays of the central nave of the choir, accompanied by two side aisles, and the polygonal apse. This ensemble, completed around the middle of the 16th century, is very sober on the outside, but the interior shows all the Renaissance decoration of the highest level. The canopies of the niches with statues in the apse are a particularity that few other churches share. Apart from the carved details, the architecture itself is still of flamboyant Gothic design. The church has been classified as a historical monument since 1980, and its restoration was completed in 2014.
