A market hall, also called a covered market or a market hall, is a construction intended to shelter a traditional market from the weather. This place is intended for the storage and the sale of objects of primary utility, which are sold there in strong part, almost always for the supply of the stores. The halls are structured by wooden frames.
The word also designates a building dedicated to a wholesale trade: wheat market, fish market. A hall is generally a very airy place for the good preservation of goods.
In the plural, the word halles refers to the place where the main food market of a town is held: the halles of Paris or the halles of Rungis.
